[Story] Catwoman and Batgirl: A Friendship Lost

I met a guy named 'BatFanTexas' on Nostalgic Sources' swiftly fading website who had written a script for a Catwoman/Batgirl story. Here's what he wrote about it:

"So I put together a rough script that I had in my head.  I don't have the resources, equipment of talent to make it a reality, but if someone in the forum who does make fan films would like to take shot at it, they would be more than welcome. It is more of an outline, so there would need to more dialogue and story elements to flesh out production.  And the characters would't have to be Batgirl and Catwoman."

I thought it was pretty good so I offered to post it here. I hope he doesn't mind but I also posted it in the Fan Fiction area of Take Off Your Mask!

(I put a fold in this post to save space on my front page. As usual, just click the Let Me See button to read more.)

Catwoman and Batgirl: A Friendship Lost
(Scene 1)
Two women are sitting in an apartment, Selina Kyle and Barbara Gordon.
They have been best friends for four years, and are now roommates.  They have grown very close over these years, both never really being able to make many friends, due to each of their night-time escapades, but this relationship seems to work.
The two begin talking about their plans for the weekend, when Barbara picks up the newspaper,
Babs: Looks like Catwoman is at it again, she just stoleanother priceless artifact from the Gotham Museum.  I am so sick of hearing stories about her, someone needs to put a stop to her.
Selina: I don’t know, I think it’s kind of fun, having astrong masked woman  go against social norms.  And besides, what makes her any different from Batgirl?
Babs: Batgirl wears her mask to protect the innocent, she is a symbol for justice.
Selina:  She wears a mask for the same reason Catwoman does, so nobody know who she is, at least Catwoman is honest about it.
They have had this conversation before, the only thing thetwo have ever disagreed about.
But they each decide to let the matter go, because the less they talk about their alter egos the better.
They make plans for Saturday.

Catwoman: But I can’t go anywhere tonight, I have to pull anall nighter the office.
Babs: Yeah me too, Dad is having me do some late nightfiling at the police station.
(Scene 2)
The two go their separate ways, but not to work.
Selina opens her closet, and looks in the very back and pullsout her cat suit.  She puts it on,putting her mask on last.
Selina: Great night to add to my collection.
At the same time Barabara is putting on her Batgirl suit, also putting on her mask last.
Babs: I am sick of Catwoman getting away.  Tonight is the night I put an end toher crime spree.
(Scene 3)
We see Catwoman leaving a building, carrying another priceless artifact.
Catwoman: Too easy. And so shiny too.
All of a sudden, Batgirl drops down right in front of her.
Batgirl: This is it Catwoman, I am done with your games,  you are finally going tosee the inside of a jail cell.
Catwoman:  How many time have you told me that Batgirl? And yet I always seem to get away.
Batgirl: Everything  changes
The two start to fight.  They have done this many times before. Each one getting ingood hits on the other.  But duringthe fight,  Batgirl lands a perfectkick that strikes Catwoman in the face. Catwoman drops to the ground, out cold.
Batgirl: Like my new move?
She walks over to the unconscious villain, and kneels beside her.
Batgirl: You know, this fight we have been having is justgoing to keep going and going.  But I know how to finally stop it.  Ifyou can no longer be Catwoman, you can’t be a threat, let’s see who you reallyare under this mask.
She lifts Catwoman’s head and takes off her mask, revealing her bast friend Selina Kyle.
Batgirl: Selina? No, it can’t be, it just can’t be.
Batgirl is distraught, learning her best friend is also her most hated enemy.
She backs away from Selina, holding the mask in her hand and staring at it.
Batgirl:  How could I not have known?  Did I just not want to know
Meanwhile, Selina starts to come to, she groans and puts her hand on her head to stop the pain, but something’s wrong. She feels around her face, but her worst fear has come true, someone took her mask off.
She looks up and sees Batgirl, holding her mask.
Selina:  What did you do?
Batgirl: Selina, I had to, it was the only way to make sureI could finally stop you.  Why have you been doing this for so many years.?
Selina: How do you know my name?  Do you know how many years I have trained to become Catwoman, and you are going to ruin  it allby revealing my identity!  I don’tthink so.
In a fit a rage, Selina  lunges at Batgirl, landing furious punches and kicks.  At times Batgirl will block and punchor get away from the scuffle and have a solid chance for a hit, but she can’tbring herself to hurt her best friend.
Selina is relentless, and finishes with a savage shot to the  Batgirl’s stomach with her knee.
Batgirl rolls on the ground in pain, barely conscious, but still aware of what is going on.
Selina: you know, may be this is for the best, I’ve always wanted to know who you were under that mask, and now you have given me nochoice.
Batgirl: (weakly) You always have a choice.
Selina slowly raises Batgirl’s mask and removes it, revealing Barbara Gordon.
Selina: Barbara?  No.
Babs:  Yes Selina, it’s me, it has always been me.
Selina is confused,. What does she do now, a look of unknowing and pain covers her face, and then all of a sudden, her Catwoman scowl comes back, and she grabs Barbara’sface.
Selina: Remember I told you how Catwoman and Batgirl were no different from each other, well I think this all proves it. We both wear masks for the same reason
Barbara: (weakly) I wear my mask to fight evil, and to protect those I love and care about, like my father, and my  friends, and you. Your mask is only used to keep yourself out of jail.
Selina: That is a noble answer, but not true. This mask keeps you out of jail as well.  If your dad ever found out your night life, he would have to put you under the jail, alongside me.
Babs: So what are you going to do now?
Selina:  Let me think about it.
Selina stands up, and kicks Babs in the face, knocking her out cold.
Selina picks up her own mask, and puts it back on, looking around to make sure no one else has seen her.
She picks up Batgirl’s mask, and starts to walk away, planning to leave the crime fighter open for public humiliation.
But she only gets about 5 steps away before she looks back at her best friend, out cold on the ground, and she looks back at the mask in her hand.
She kneels beside Barbara and puts the mask back on her face.
Catwoman: Consider this my last act of friendship.
And she walks away, leaving Babs, still unconscious, but her identity as Batgirl still intact…. For now.
